Everyone loves to make a statement about where they live.  You should be proud of where you live and want to show it off.  Let’s roll up your sleeves and get busy.  Here are some simple and cost effective ways to add some interest to your home.

One of the easiest ways to make a design upgrade is to use a a triptych to instantly upgrade any room’s wow factor. The triptych style of art has been rising in popularity in recent years, and can become expensive. But making your own changes the game instantly and you don’t have to be an artist to get this done.  You just need a little time and imagination.

If you have wood floors then the bigger the area the rug the bigger the room will feel.  Although I’ve heard from people that they spent a small fortune on their wood floors and don’t want to cover them up with a rug, but adding an area rug brings warmth and coziness into the room.

There are countless area rugs options available and creating ideas for your rug is exciting and fun.  Do you want eclectic or traditional?  Is your room capable of a large oriental rug or do you want a solid textured rug? Oriental rugs are some of my favorite styles because of the endless color but they don’t always go with everything in your home.  If you have solid colored furniture then an oriental rug is a good choice, but don’t be afraid to mix patterned furniture with an oriental rug either. Mixing patterns can be fun!

Often times, less is more when decorating your home.  Too may people feel they need to add more accessories to improve the overall look of a room when sometimes the opposite is better.  I would rather see quality then quantity.

I love using books to accessorize with.  You can lay them flat or stack them flat and even lean them up against a shelf.  The color and titles of a book can be used as a form of art. When I visit friends or clients I always look at what kind of books they display; it gives a guest an insightful look into what they like. Plus, books are a great conversation starter.

Even if you’re not on a budget I say make one dynamic focal point in your room and be bold about it.  Make a statement!  Many people use the fireplace and the piece of art they collected above the fireplace as the focal point.  But, you have many options in this area.  Art is a good way to establish a focal point and now with the extraordinary varieties in wall paper you can use that as a major point of interest.
